LG-Motion recently designed and supplied a large custom built X-Z detector positioning system for the I24 Microfocus Macromolecular Crystallography (MX) beamline at Diamond Light Source, the UKís national synchrotron science facility.
The customer wanted a system that cut their diamonds, but also measured and recorded the resistance on the blade, to obtain a higher degree of accuracy whilst cutting.
The system had to incorporate a linear actuator (To carry a low-power laser for the scanning), and a 3-axis of rotation system to position and hold the sample piece in place.
